YOUR TEACHERS

Marc Wittenberg

M A R C W I T T E N B E R G Trained by Duncan Peak of Power Living Yoga in 2011 and enjoying the ongoing teachings and mentorship of Eileen Hall (Ashtanga Yoga Moves Sydney). His energetic and demanding classes are result driven but also an experience with lots of fun and joy. Marc's most transforming experiences have come from Buddhist Vipassana Meditation and the strong and challenging Ashtanga Yoga Practice. Soon turning 60 years of age and having started yoga relatively late in life, he strongly believes in the transformative power of yoga. Mentally and physically. Anyone can, and should be doing yoga, even if this entails only little moving (asana) practice, but meditation and study of scriptures. Yoga makes the Impossible possible!

Jana Rybárová

J A N A R Y B Á R O V Á first found yoga in 2014 in London and the physicality of the practice caught her interest right away! In 2016 she decided to go to India and I set on a path of self-discovery, looking within and finding her true purpose in life. Through yoga, she is able to understand, appreciate and influence the world around her. Based in Sydney, her intention as a professional Yoga Teacher is to help students listen to their inner selves and find the courage to step out of their comfort zone. She expanded her knowledge again in India in 2019 with Advanced yoga teacher training and continued in Sydney with studies in NLP , pilates and yin yoga to complement her teaching.

John Cussack

J O H N C U S A C K   - began practicing yoga in early 2012. What immediately appealed to him about yoga is how it works on a multitude of levels simultaneously. A standard one hour class can have the effect of rigorously working the body on the physical level; creating peace andstillness on the mental level; and lastly connecting with/accessing the higher self on the spiritual level.

He enjoys teaching corporate, private and studio classes around Sydney and maintains to practice under the guidance of his teacher Eileen Hall (Ashtanga Yoga Moves). Away from the world of Yoga, I enjoy reading, the visual arts, hiking, ocean swimming and above all drinking coffee accompanied by the odd lemon curd tart.

Suyin Cavanagh

S U Y I N C A V A N A G H   Suyin came to Yoga out of curiosity in her twenties and over the years she has explored all linages beginning with Iyengar and continues to practice Ashtanga, Hatha and YIN. 2011 was the beginning of feeling a deeper connection to Yoga as a daily practice and way of life. Here she stumbled upon YIN Yoga and felt the wonder of slowing down. In 2018 the idea of teaching surfaced. By going inward an entire universe opened up and showed Suyin how to connect to physical, energetic and emotional aspects of being. Without thoughts or words, she learned how to allow imprints to surface, watch them change and let go. This felt sense of being and subtle awareness is what she shares with our students at Manumission. Beyond public classes, Suyin is devoted to expanding the access to YIN Yoga, making it available to people with disabilities, mental health challenges, in groups and communities through her business enterprise, SUNDAY SLOW.Her biggest teachers are her friends, students, and family including Marc Wittenberg. Special note to YIN teachers Jamie Strathairn and Wiebke Queisser who have shared their deep knowledge and maps of YIN.

Carl Lortz

C A R L L O R T Z Always interested in consciousness and mythology, Carl first started regular asana yoga practice in the Iyengar style 20 years ago following a serious back injury and has been a consistent yoga practitioner ever since. These days Carl's main focus is the ashtanga tradition and other vinyasa sequences with a more specific therapeutic or restorative intent. His First formal studies In yoga include: Teacher training with Jivamukti and Matthew Sweeney, plus further studies in ki yoga, and yoga anatomy/biomechanics with Simon Borg-Oliver.
He has been privileged to have received mentoring from the highly esteemed Eileen Hall, Fiona Parker, and Matthew Sweeney. Carl is always interested in learning more and passionate about making yoga useful for all practitioners yet maintains a deep reverence and fascination with yogic methods to improve equilibrium and gain greater insights into consciousness.

Margery Ia

M A R G E R Y A I In 2018, during a year in London spent soul-searching, Margery fell in love with yoga. Until then, she had been mystified by her own existence, and she wanted answers. All of them. As it turned out, yoga didn't give her the answers, but – through the slow, quiet, selfless practice – it gave her permission to rest in not-knowing. In 2019, she continued the romance and travelled to Bali to deepen her practice. There she completed her 200 Hour training with All Yoga School, and since then has practiced with her teacher Marc Wittenberg. Expect her classes to be a moving meditation – a journey away from clinging to thoughts and emotions, and toward the simple art of noticing breath and body. Off the mat, you’ll find Margery swimming, laughing, day-dreaming, and writing poetry on silly matters of the heart.

Marine Geraud

M A R I N E G E R A U D     Born in France, Marine moved to Sydney in 2015. She started her yoga practice to help navigate difficult mental health challenges including depression and PTSD - Yoga would become a key driver in her recovery. Marine loves being a facilitator and helping people discover how they can use their own practice to get a better understanding of themselves, as well as support their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Marine's classes are strong but cater to all levels from beginners to advanced practitioners. Her creative sequences are built on a layered approach aimed at helping students warm up and build up strength to get into deeper poses toward the end of the practice. Passionate about inversions, Marine always offers options to play with inversions and fun arm balances transitions in her classes.

Romulus, Armi, Bodhi and Odin

O D I N, B O D H I, A R M I A N D R O M U L U S   Our resident yoga dogs have always been part of the school. Odin for 9 years, Bodhi since she was 3 months old and Romulus was at the school within a week after being born. Armi has been a true yogi since leaving the outback a few years ago. They are often joined by our students dogs - and it seems they are the most popular part of the school!
